Flickr slideshow

I am in the process of trying to figure out how to upload my photos from my flickr site onto a blog post (not in a slideshow format like this). I think I am close to figuring it out, I know how to add one at a time and I am hoping there is an easier way since I am not too interested in doing it one by one.

The pictures on here are all new ones I have taken of the kids in the past few days. The kids and I went out to the field the other night and Ty went for his first tractor ride at 9 months. He loved it and was trying to drive and pull on levers the whole time. The reason I know this is not b/c Travis told me but b/c I was with...all FIVE of us were with in this itty bitty tractor cab to plant a few rows of soybeans. It was a fun family time, although a little bit cramped!

I am using a lot of actions right now, mainly ones I downloaded from pioneerwoman.com (awesome blog by the way! you should go and check it out here.) I am also going to make my own website (or at least try!). I really want a professional place where potential clients can view my work and prices as well as a calendar with a list of available dates. Look for that in the coming month or so!

But for now, I hope you enjoyed the slideshow, it's short and sweet!

Olivia- 8, Holly- 6, & Jack- 2

Oh my goodness, I feel more like a professional photographer now...and not because of the following images (although I have to admit, they are pretty cute!) but because I am now using CS3! Can I just say WOW, it is awesome so far! I know that I haven't even scratched the surface as far as what I could be doing with it, I will be experimenting a lot in the coming months!

The kids in the following photos are three adorable little blondies that I had the pleasure to photograph over the weekend. I had a bit of a challenge with the little guy Jack but I think I still caught some great 'true to life' photos (which are my favorite anyway!) The older two girls posed so well and showed me all around their gorgeous place in the country ..did I mention that they live on a lake? The possibilities were endless and I ended up with many good shots, these are just a few of my favorites.

Makena- 5 years

I had so much fun taking pictures of this little girl, she posed so well, I could definetly see a modeling career in her future. Her mom let me experiment with different locations around town and I think we had a lot of shots that turned out so cute because of it. When taking pictures of kids, I love using natural light and having lots of color! To me, it just seems so much more childlike and innocent. So, I owe a big thank you to Makena and her mom for such a great session!

Taylyn- 3 weeks

I am so excited that I was able to have my very first newborn session! It was a suprise, I didn't really know about it until a day before the shoot. I was scheduled to photograph this little beauty's five year old cousin, who is a future little model I might add! Their mommies talked it over and decided they wanted both girls to get in front of the lens! Ya, what a bonus for me! I am going to post little Taylyn's session first and then add Makena right after since I think they both deserve their own post! Don't you love this little one's thick head of dark hair!? All three of my blondies were pretty bald at birth (w/ a few wisps of hair) so it is always fun to see a little one with lots of pretty locks!

Trip to the park

The kids and I went to Lindenwood Park in Fargo yesterday to play on their amazing playground and also so I could scope out some good picture taking spots. Even with the flooding this spring there were plenty of awesome places! I think that my favorites from the day, though, are the first two. I took them in front of a green door in the park...they really bring out the kids eyes (especially Tanner who was looking right at the camera). I was using a wide aperture again, mostly 1.4, sometimes 2.4...just depended on how I was feeling at the time. I also am getting a better handle on ISO and when to change that during what lighting situations. The more I learn about my camera the more that I love it! Thank goodness for some nice, warm weather!
I have a photo shoot this afternoon with a beautiful little girl and her new baby cousin! I can't wait to see how that session goes!

Celebrate Everyday Life...finally, a new photo book!

Click here to view this photo book.

I finally did it, I made a new photo book showcasing our family. I have made so many fun books in the past and have been missing the whole process lately I just broke down and did it. I left the editing of photos behind, the email, the blog and just created. It felt fantastic! I was able to use photos from my new camera so I feel like this one was one of my best...just not my most creative since it was a template from Shutterfly and not one of my own. Oh well, when I have time for that I will make a more original one! I highly recommend Shutterfly to anyone looking to do something 'more' with their photos! The quality and price can't be beat!

Using a wide aperture...

It was a beautiful day in our neighborhood today (yes, I still watch Mr. Rogers, :) and the kids and I ventured out to spend the day basking in the sun's warm rays. This spring hasn't been the nicest one on record, the other day the temperature dropped down to 32...way too cold for May! I have been spending those cold days indoors reading photography blogs while the kids are sleeping or hanging out with their dad and I have learned soo much! I think that it has finally clicked, I feel like I have a handle on what aperture, ISO, white balance, etc. is! I LOVE my camera, have I mentioned that lately??! I think (no, I know) that I would be lost without it. I am having so much fun experimenting with this new found knowledge it is bordering on obsessive! Anyway, I wanted to try and use a wide aperture (to get super cool bokeh, which I am also becoming slightly obsessed with!) so I used my 50mm 1.4 portrait lens and had a blast. These are the results. I like how the subject is so in focus and everything behind is a blurry dreamlike scene. And it was so much more fun today because the kids were willing to let mama test my skills out on them! Most days I am lucky to get a look, let alone a smile or a genuine emotion other than annoyance. Here are some of my favorites, what do you think?

Jaylyn- 14 months

I got the chance to do another session with Jaylyn and wow has she grown up! It was only four months ago that I took her pictures and it seems she went from a baby to a little girl in that short time! This time we headed out to the lake to take some fun outdoor shots and I think they turned out pretty well considering it was only in the 40's and cloudy (not too fun when it's the middle of May!) There was a lot of good places with lots of color so I was having a blast! I think that my favorite shots are those taken in front of this shed, painted blue and orange...so cool! Thanks 'L' family for another fantastic shoot!

Carli- Age 1

Such a gorgeous day for a fun one year old photo shoot. The sun was shining, the temperature was above 55 (not such a small feat in MN in May!) and the little girl I was focusing on was full of personality. Carli gave me some gorgeous looks, I loved her big, beautiful brown eyes! She was also modeling some colorful, girly outfits! This shoot was so easy and fun, it really wasn't a problem to get some good shots!
I can't believe that I am so lucky to be able to do something I truly love, taking pictures of cute kids and their families (and editing them, the whole process is a blast!). I wish I would have listened to that voice in my head telling me to do this years ago! But I am so thankful that I have found my way into it now!
Here are just a handful of the many fun shots from our sunny, colorful shoot! Thanks again 'M' family!
